En cierta ocasión Bertrand Russel(1872-1970) estaba especulando sobre enunciados condicionales del tipo : "Si llueve las calles están mojadas" y afirmaba que de un enunciado falso se puede deducir cualquier cosa. Alguien que le escuchaba le interrumpió con la siguiente pregunta : "Quiere usted decir que si 2 + 2 = 5 entonces usted es el Papa". Russel contestó afirmativamente y procedió a demostrarlo de la siguiente manera : "Si suponemos que 2 + 2 = 5, entonces estará de acuerdo que si restamos 2 de cada lado obtenemos 2 = 3. Invirtiendo la igualdad y restando 1 de cada lado, da 2 = 1. Como el Papa y yo somos dos personas y 2 = 1 entonces el Papa y yo somos uno, luego yo soy el Papa". Someone who listened interrupted with the question: "Do you mean that if 2 + 2 = 5 then you are the Pope." Russell said yes and proceeded to prove it as follows: "If we assume that 2 + 2 = 5, then you will agree that if we subtract 2 from each side we get 2 = 3. Investing equality and subtracting 1 from each side, gives 2 = 1. As Pope and I are two people and 2 = 1 then the Pope and I are one, then I am the Pope ".I |
